I loved this quote above the instant I read it. Unfortunately, I didn’t write down where I saw it first. I used my Hahnemühle Nostalgie sketchbook and my “Juicy” trio to do this sketch/painting. Nostalgie is a lovely sketchbook that I’ve reviewed several times (also Here & Here). The paper is nice and thick and as you can see with the lettering, it takes pen & ink beautifully. There’s no feathering at all and no bleed through even when using a brush pen. The 190gsm paper also takes watercolor and gauche well. Roz Stendahl of Roz Wound Up absolutely LOVES the Nostalgie paper, it’s one of her favorites and if you know Roz, you know that’s a huge endorsement.
If you’ve been reading this blog for any length of time, you know I’ve been enamored with fruit and veg for a long time. I am absolutely in love with their interesting lines, deep shadows and luscious colors. I had begun to wonder if my lust for painting produce would ever wane but it seems finally, this spring, I have a new fascination. Flowers. Who knew? I have no idea if this obsession will be fleeting or it’ll last for months. At least I now know I have the ability to be lured to new subjects. Don’t worry, I still love to paint a good pear but I get the feeling I’ll be branching out and trying new things this year.
It’s such fun to explore and challenge your own skills. This spring and summer I have lots of new paper, sketchbooks & pens to test and review. And of course there’s my new Trio to paint with. I do love Da Vinci watercolors! There will be several projects rolling out as the summer approaches and I will get a handle on my new video equipment so if you want to subscribe to my YouTube channel, feel free.
I have the limited palette from Da Vinci that is available. Anytime you purchase one of my Trios, it helps support me and my blog here. If you’d like to purchase my “Juicy” Trio, go to Da Vinci’s website where you can read all about their watercolor paints. Da Vinci is one of my favorite brands, it pushed out all the other watercolors except Schmincke. If you’d like to read all about the Trio project, go here.
Anticipating: My birthday week. I LOVE that week when I spend extra time my people. I try to soak in all the things in life that one tends to overlook. It’s a great time of year too, with blooming flowers, spring air and new possibilities all around.
Planning: I’ll be trying to do some short videos as get used to my new iPhone and it’s capabilities. I hope it’s easier than it looks!
Loving: My new office shelves. They’re tricked out with wallpaper, extra shelves and awesomeness. Gotta love an early birthday present!!
