The other day I was talking about some of the techniques I use to save paintings that otherwise would hit the bin. The Artichoke below would have been one of those duds without liberal use of Brilliant Opera Rose. I used buckets of it, lol. The purples just weren’t popping and to get that deep, dark blackish color, I was using Payne’s. It dulled the purple color until the piece looked just weird. The greens were bright and vibrant but everything faded to those darks so I threw lots of Opera at it.
Yes, it did end up too dark. I think I started out too dark in the first place. But, hey, it’s a fantasy artichoke, hahahaha. I’ll attempt them again sometime but I was so happy that the hours of drawing and painting weren’t wasted because I used a trick. Go here to read all about other cool tricks to help You be a better painter!
In other news, I’m now a Zebra Artist Ambassador. YAY! Zebra makes pens. They also have the cutest mascot EVER! His name is Zen and you’ll see him peeking in some of the photos of my paintings. He sits on my desk and encourages me. Zen has become good friends with Bumble. They talk about the difficulties of being a mascot. I think Zen is encouraging Bumble to ask for compensation for all his hard work being my mascot. That Zebra is going to get into trouble!
I love Zebra’s technical pens & brush pens. I also use their Sarasa gel pens in my bullet journal from my friend Alice Hendon. Review here. This bullet journal is undated so it can be started anytime.
You’ll see me use Zebra pens often. I will also be including Zebra pen into my giveaways from now on. Soon I’ll be doing a Drawing Giveaway with all those lovely things an artist wants and needs to draw, sketch and create. Watch this space!

More great information Jenn! I’m really looking forward to playing with Opera Pink after reading your last two blog posts – and I think that artichoke has a pretty cool zen vibe going on 😉
