Hello all!
I hope this week went beautifully for everyone. I’m back to remind you about Hahnemühle’s newest watercolor paper, The Collection. I’ve loved working on it, I think it may now be my favorite paper. My fave used to be Cézanne (also Hahnemühle-surprise, they do make spectacular paper) but this paper usurps that title. Let me convince you that it should go onto your Christmas list this season.
OH, and this applies to Canadians. Opus is now carrying The Collection so we can indulge in some awesomeness too.
Ok, first, it’s 100% cotton rag. That means it’s the GOOD stuff right there. But then there’s also all these other qualities that just make you drool as an artist. Here’s the comprehensive list of good qualities…
- Comes in two weights – 300gsm (140lb) & 640gsm (300lb)
- In all three textures – Hot Pressed, Cold Pressed & Rough
- Comes in 3 block sizes, plus sheets and rolls (goto this LINK to see sizes in cm)
- It’s vegan
- resistant to aging
- acid-free
- mould-made
- The 100% cotton rag paper is made from especially strong fibers with incomparable purity
If The Collection was a guy I’d want it to be my boyfriend! I mean seriously, good qualities that translate into ease of use. 🤣 (That means he smiles at you and tells you you’re petty! 👍🏼). As an artist though, it means you can use frisket and it actually rubs off easily. When you use artist tape on the edges to define your work, the tape actually removes smoothly without ripping the top layer of paper off. It also means pencil erases beautifully and I haven’t even mentioned how well the watercolors flow and how the colors pop, looking so bright and clear.
Gee, did I mention I have a new favorite paper?
At the moment, there are two places to purchase The Collection (yes, blame the pandemic):
IN CANADA – Click Here to go to OPUS
IN THE US – Click Here to go to Wet Paint
Many of you have said to me you do, in fact, have this paper on your “To Buy” list. I think that’s a GREAT idea and I bet Santa would bring you this paper if you asked reeaallly nicely. Have you been good this year? (I think we all get a pass with the Pandemic, we’ve ALL been good this year!)
Let’s start the Christmas spirit, K? I’ll start. I’m giving away six sample kits of The Collection watercolor paper (two pieces 6″x8″ each). They’ll be shipped by Hahnemühle and both Canadians and Americans can enter to win! It’s like a little Advent Calendar gift from me to you. Just use the Rafflecopter widget below to enter and follow the simple instructions. The giveaway starts now (Saturday November 7, 2020) and ends Friday November 13, 2020 at midnight. OOH, it ends on Friday the 13th, that goes with the dark and stormy night art above! I should have told you about it…
The “Dark & Stormy Night” panting shows off all of the great qualities of The Collection. I used many layers of watercolor and also a big black sharpie. I layered Payne’s and indigo watercolors over some of it so it had a little life, then filled in leaves with artist pens (like Zebra Zensations). The moon was kept white with frisket and, as I said, rubbed off with no problems. The edges were taped (not shown) and the tape came off perfectly. (every time I look at the above piece I have this overwhelming urge to whisper… BOO! 😳)
Here’s your Rafflecopter widget.
And on that happy note, (because I think all of us could use a little extra early cheer), I present… “The Usual Suspects”…
Let me be the first to say, I hope we ALL have a very Happy and Peaceful Holiday Season starting NOW. (🎄who me? You think I’ll have my Christmas Tree up by November 15? How dare you!! That’s NOT a Christmas tree in my living room! That’s just a… well decorated ficus… with an identity crisis.)
Keep smiling, my friends.
Oh, and I’m also including this quote. If it doesn’t convince you to put The Collection paper on your wishlist, nothing will…
The prized cotton papers, Watercolor 140 and 300 lb, are characterized by a very durable paper surface that is well suited for demanding watercolor techniques. The fibers do not lift, rub off or loosen, even when applying multiple layers of color, or when using masking fluids and tapes. This paper lets you use the most beautiful colors and create remarkable wet-on-wet paintings.
Also, if you want links of where to buy any Hahnemühle paper, just go to my handy dandy “Where To Buy” page.
ONE last thing, and don’t say I never gave ya anything! Da Vinci is having a HUGE SALE! Up to 60% off. Yep, you heard me. GO, buy some paint. And if you love me you’ll use my link, lol. Don’t worry if you forget, just go get some great paint at a great deal. Thank You in advance.
