YAY!! We’re back to GIVEAWAYS!
Here’s how it’s gonna go. We’re starting this Monday April 15th with our first 2019 giveaway. There will also be another giveaway in ONE week. After that, we will have a giveaway every other week. Each starts on Monday and ends Saturday evening at 11:59pm Pacific Standard Time. The winner will be drawn and announced on that Sunday. Said winner will have 72 hours to get back to me with their address or the prize will be redrawn. My giveaways are open to all subscribers with a US or Canadian address. So, keep your eyes peeled for great art products from Hahnemühle and Zebra Pens along with other goodies like paint, colored pencils and even candy!
This week we’re getting close to Easter so I wanted to highlight the products I use every holiday to make decorative cards etc. Hahnemühle’s watercolor postcards and You Tangle tiles are great for doing a little piece of art to give to loved ones. Official reviews on postcards here, You Tangle tile review here. It’s a ridiculous amount of fun to play on these small pieces of paper.
Watercolor Postcards:
The postcards come in both rough and cold pressed. They take watercolor, pen & ink, colored pencils and other wet and dry media beautifully. I find the CP great for hand lettering and the rough really fun to paint on because of the texture of the paper. You get thirty 4″ x 6″ postcards per tin. The paper is 230gsm, bright white and archival.
There’s something freeing when the paper is already just the right size. The postcards also come in a cool tin that Hahnemühle decorates every year with artwork. Empty tins make great plein air sketching gear, watercolor palettes or as storage for your completed masterpieces. I tend to combine brush pen lettering and watercolor art with these, you can see more examples here.
You Tangle Tiles:
The You Tangle tiles, however are meant for dry media like pens and pencils. I have used watercolors on them successfully but you do have to be gentle. Laying down ONE layer of light wash works well as you can see from this post on how to make your own Valentines. They take a swipe from brush pens like a dream but remember, scrubbing and other techniques to blend pen colors is much like using wet media so you have to be careful. These work best with technical pens, one stroke brush pens and colored pencils. What a great way to send love notes as you can see in this post. The tiles are 3.5″ square and also come in a cute tin. You get twenty-five tiles per tin and of course, the empty tin can be used just like the postcard tin, as a palette or storage tin.
The one thing I’ve noticed now that I’ve used these watercolor postcards and You Tangle tiles for a few years is that they’re totally addictive! I always end up making more than I intended because I get inspired and creative. It’s the freedom of just playing on a little piece of paper, having a splash and letting go with your creativity. I have several other ideas I want to implement before Easter next week, let’s hope I can eek out a little extra time to play.
